JAWSENSE

The Nitty Gritty of Our Features

Bruxism

The device continuously monitors jaw muscle activity and brain activity through ExG sensors on the forehead and around the temporalis muscles. This facilitates the early detection of bruxism episodes. The app provides insights into the observed bruxism activity and analyzes trends.

Biofeedback

When the device detects bruxism episodes, it delivers gentle vibrations or electrical pulses as biofeedback. The app provides insights into the frequency and effectiveness of biofeedback provided. The app can also be used for active biofeedback training through real-time visualizations of jaw activity.

All metrics are available as daily summary statistics and can be viewed as a weekly, monthly, and yearly trend. Selected metrics are available as daily timeseries when the headband is worn for prolonged periods of time during night.

Note that the product is currently still under development and it is possible that the list of features might change.

Sleep

The device continuously monitors your sleep to predict bruxism episodes and to optimise the biofeedback intensity. The app provides insights into the observed sleep stages and sleep quality metrics and can be used the analyze the relationship between sleep and bruxism behaviour.

Stress

The app provides insights into observed stress markers during sleep and can be used to analyze the relationship between stress and bruxism behaviour.

Passive biofeedback

Passive biofeedback is provided through soft vibrations and electrical pulses coming from the device when a bruxism episode is detected. Biofeedback settings are personalized to optimize effectiveness.

Biofeedback occurrences

Total number of biofeedback occurrences during sleep.

Active biofeedback

Active biofeedback is provided through the app where users can see their realtime jaw activity. Users can train to relax their jaw by following prompts to engage and relax their jaws and by being aware of their jaws.

Biofeedback response

Percentage decrease in observed jaw muscle activity after providing a biofeedback signal.

Resting HR

Resting heart rate estimated during sleep.

HRV

HRV estimated during sleep.

Realtime EMG activity

Realtime jaw muscle activity based on the left and right temporalis muscles for the purpose of active biofeedback training.

Baseline EMG activity

Estimated baseline jaw muscle activity during periods of rest, indicating whether there's a baseline of tension in the jaw muscle.

Activity index

Summary index to capture the degree of relaxation of the jaw muscles based on a combination of the other metrics.

Number of episodes

Number of identified bruxism episodes during sleep.

Duration of episodes

Duration in seconds of identified bruxism episodes during sleep.

Classification of episodes

Classification of identified bruxism episodes into grinding, clenching, bracing, thrusting or mixed.

Asymmetry index

Index to capture the degree of balance or asymmetry between the left and right jaw muscles.

Sleep duration

Total time asleep.

Sleep stages

Time spent in different sleep stages.

Restfulness

Restfulness based on body movements.

Sleep index

Summary index to capture the sleep quality based on a combination of the other metrics.

Heart rate

Heart rate during sleep.

HRV

HRV during sleep.

Breathing rate

Breathing rate per minute during sleep.

Blood oxygenation

Changes in blood oxygenation observed during time asleep.

Breathing rate

Breathing rate per minute observed during sleep.

Stress index

Summary index to capture the stress level based on a combination of other metrics.
